The Fourth Industrial Revolution: An Explanatory Approach from the Labor Market for the Textile and Financial Sector in Medellín
Abstract
This paper studied the effects of technological development on the labor market in Medellín. It analyzed the behavior of vacancies, unemployment and wages in the manufacturing and financial sectors. In order to achieve that, this study used data from the Household Integrated Sample Survey (GEIH) and the Annual Manufacturing Survey (EAM) published by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) for the period 2007-2019. The results changed according to the sector and variable of study. This could be due to the natural fluctuations in the labor market or transitory events in those sectors in certain periods and it showed that the automation process in the city has not yet reached an adequate level to reflect clear effects in the city.
